Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Faith Formation (CGS)
What is CGS? A Montessori-based, religious faith formation developed by Sofia Cavalletti and her friend, Gianna Gobbi. In its simplest terms, CGS is “listening to God with children.” The place where children and adults gather to listen to God together is called an Atrium: a place to listen, work and pray.
Why CGS? CGS focusses on fostering the relationship between God and the child and forming the child in the image of Christ. This loving relationship is introduced to the child through the image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd who knows and loves us and calls each of us by name. EHA’s mission to form Christ centered leaders is carried out in the atrium where through the Holy Spirit, the catechist presents works to the child to enhance the child’s relationship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd. The atrium enhances the child’s understanding of the Mass to help the child participate more fully in the Mass at any age.
How is EHA offering CGS? EHA is blessed to offer a Level 1 Atrium for all full-time students in Kindergarten – 1st grade and a Level 2 Atrium for all full-time students in 2nd – 4th grade.
Erica Genzale is our lead catechist for the Atrium at EHA. Mrs. Genzale has been a CGS catechist for 4 years and completed her Level 2 training in the summer of 2019. Her dream for CGS has always been to bring it to a school. She has been a parishioner at Holy Family Parish in Kirkland all her life and all four of her children attend EHA. Mrs. Genzale enjoys watching the Holy Spirit work through the children.
